SERVING AND YOUR GIFTING
You will never be more like Jesus than when you are serving.
Jesus even said, "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve" (Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:45, John 13:1-17).
In fact, in Mark 10:43 Jesus defines greatness by serving one another. Our church has loads of ministry opportunities for such service, and we need you to plug in!
Whether you know it or not, you bring unique skills, abilities and gifts that God can certainly use for His church and ultimately His kingdom.
I Corinthians 12 is a great passage that helps explain spiritual gifts. Other helpful passages include Romans 12:6-8 and Ephesians 4:11.
We like to break it all down by what we call the 3 A's
to discern your gifts and where you could serve:
Affinity- What are your passions? What do you enjoy? What has God especially put in your heart that touches you? Maybe it's some injustice that needs to be righted or involved in an area to those in great need; for example, foster care or adoption.
Ability- What can you do well? Maybe you don't naturally do it well at first, but God wants to use you in that area anyway to display His power and strength in you.
Affirmation- What do your friends think? How about your church family, and those who really know you well (your small group)? You’d be surprised at the insight faithful friends can provide. Listen to them. It goes without saying that prayer is an important part of the process. God does not hide these things from us. His desire is to use you in the life of the church. Pray. You will be answered and affirmed.
